BOSTON COLLEGE, RANKED # 31

Average GPA: Not reported

Average SAT score: 1880 ~ 2150

Located in Chestnut Hill, Boston College has over 9,000 undergrads – large enough to offer diverse experiences but small enough to feel tight-knit. BC has a wide reputation for academic excellence. They are 10th among the nation’s research universities in producing Fulbright Fellowship winners. The school offers over 75 majors and concentrations, interdisciplinary programs, and pre-professional programs in nine schools and nine colleges. Strong areas of study include management and leadership, communication, history, nursing, political science and theology. There is an abundance of honors programs and research opportunities, as well as study-abroad options. BC does have a strong Jesuit and Catholic influence, as 70% of the study body is Catholic – but one student says “you won’t feel out of place if you aren’t Catholic or even religious at all.” About a quarter of the students are AHANA (African American, Hispanic, Asian, and Native American), and while there is plenty of ethnic diversity, some complain that there isn’t enough socioeconomic diversity in the student body. The school also offers up to 125 educational, cultural, and social student organizations. BC has 27 Division I sports, with football and hockey being the most popular. In the past decade, the college has seen an impressive 75% increase in undergrad applications.

Famous Alumni: Doug Flutie (NFL Quarterback), John Kerry (US Secretary of State, Former US Senator, Former Presidential Nominee), Amy Poehler (Comedian), Chris O’Donnell (Actor)
