UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN – ANN ARBOR, RANKED # 29

Average GPA: 3.8

Average SAT score: 1830 ~ 2130

The University of Michigan is located in the lively city of Ann Arbor, and ranks fourth among public universities according to U.S. News & World Report. It offers approximately 60 majors, with Biology, Engineering, and Political Science programs being the most notable. Despite the fact that there are 26,000 undergrads, the average class size is just 10 to 19 people. There are a truly impressive 900 student organizations to choose from, many of them multicultural: the Ballroom Dance Club, Muslim Student Association and Entrepreneur and Venture Club are among popular options. The university takes pride in its high diversity, with 23% minority student body. There is a total of 26 sororities and 38 fraternities, so Greek life is fairly prominent – but apparently also extremely exclusive. UM is extremely serious about football. The Wolverines are Division I with 42 Big Ten Championships and 11 National Championships under their belts. “Football is like a religion, and the players are like demigods,” comments a student. Housing is guaranteed for the first year, but only about 37% of undergrads live on campus, making it somewhat of a residential ghost town.

Famous Alumni: Tom Brady (New England Patriots quarterback), Madonna (pop sensation), Arthur Miller (author of Death of a Salesman)
