Located in the Piedmont region of North Carolina in the city of Winston-Salem, Wake Forest is a medium-sized, private liberal arts university that combines the resources of a large uni with the community feel of a small college. There are a total of 71 majors at Wake Forest, and the university has 5 graduate divisions: the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, the Schools of Business, the School of Divinity, the School of Law, and the School of Medicine. Programs in business and enterprise management, as well as the offerings for pre-health students, are particularly strong. The school also boasts over 400 study-abroad programs in over 70 countries, which over 60% of the students participate in! Among 155 student organizations, the most popular include social justice groups like Amnesty International, the Disabilities Awareness Coalition, and the Student Environmental Action Coalition. Other stand-outs include Handbell Choir and Anthony Aston Players theater group. With 52% of women and 37% of men pledging, the Greek scene is a big part of campus social life. Wake Forest is also home to 16 Division I varsity sports. Football and men’s basketball are historically competitive, as is women’s field hockey. The student body tends to be “a little on the conservative side” and is somewhat “preppy”, says a student – and off-campus life is a bit lackluster, as the campus is in quite a residential area. However, Wake Forest is perfect for students who want to make the most of their academics, experience a tight-knit community, and get involved in research while enjoying mild climate and a healthy social scene.
